Joe Fairless won his first ABT Masters title by defeating Orlando Reyes 198-166 at Brunswick Lakeside Bowl. Rodney Hayes opened the stepladder finals by defeating John Carlson 209-176. Bob Engler then defeated Hayes 231-228 before falling to Fairless 249-168. In the championship match Orlando Reyes left the "big four" in frame 3 then missed a 4 pin in frame 4 to allow Fairless to open up a 31 pin lead which he never relinquished as he rolled to the final 198-166 victory.
Champion's Profile: Joe Fairless is 30 years old and employed as a Technical Writer for Motorola. He has been bowling since junior leagues and currently bowls at Thunderbird, Hawthorn, Brunswick Deer Park and Fox Bowl. He has a 298 high game and a 779 high series to his credit. Joe was rolling a Storm Pearl Thunder Road drilled by Jerry Cullom at 3D Pro Shop Plus. Joe said that he's gotten help with his game from Dick Williams, Jerry Cullom, his dad, John, and this week from Roger Partynski during the finals. He thanked Paul Marcinek for helping him line up during qualifying and his family for getting him started in bowling. He also thanked the staffs of Brunswick Lakeside and the ABT. Joe said his winnings would be used to pay bills. He also said that the Progressive Pot is excellent and the ABT Club is great to be a part of with all the competition and support. Joe also said that the shot this week was really good and consistent.
