Mary Williams won her first ABT Classic title by defeating Janet Kulovitz 197-196 at AMF Bolingbrook Lanes. Dolores Finley opened the stepladder finals by defeating David Nevels 191-181. Danny Lenior then defeated Finley 195-180 before falling to Williams 200-175. The championship match was a nail-biter that came down to the final frame. Kulovitz had a double up in the 8th and 9th frames and seemed to have the match won, but Williams struck out in the 10th to force the issue. Kulovitz could win the match by counting 8 and 1 in the tenth frame, but knocked down seven with her first ball, meaning that she now needed the spare. Unfortunately, she missed, and Williams was the come-from-behind winner by the final count of 197-196.
Champion's Profile: Mary Williams is 31 years old and employed as a Service Rep. Consultant for Halo. She has been bowling for 16 years and bowls league at Irving Park Lanes. She has a high game of 247 to go along with a 556 high series. Mary was using a Storm El Niņo drilled by Jose Torres at Action Pro Shop. She said that Mark Clark has been helping her to improve her game. Mary thanked her mom and Mark Clark for all their support. She also thanked her fellow Wednesday night league bowlers for pushing her, and the ABT staff and AMF Bolingbrook for hosting the tournament. Her winnings will be used for a vacation in New York next month. Mary said winning was great and she was really happy to get the clock.
