*** BUCKINGHAM TOPS TEAMMATE AT LAKEHURST ***
Norm Buckingham won his first ABT Classic title by defeating league
teammate John Davis 162-151 at Brunswick Zone Lakehurst. Davis opened the stepladder
finals by defeating Tracy Ford 212-200. He then eliminated Tuwanda Peters 205-194 and Ben
Omaye 204-200 to set up the title match against top seed Norm Buckingham. It almost seemed
as if those league teammates were hesitant about beating one another, but Buckingham
managed to build a 15-pin lead after 8 frames. Buckingham finished fist and opened in both
the 9th and 10th frames to give Davis yet another chance to win the match. Needing a mark
in the 10th frame, Davis promptly drilled one through the nose, leaving a "big
four" and handing the title right back to Buckingham.
Champion's Profile: Norm Buckingham is 43 years old and employed as
a Letter Carrier of the U.S. Post Office. He is married to Rhonda and they have two
children, Chanei and Briana, ages 13 and 7. Norm has been bowling for 30 years and bowls
league at Brunswick Zone Lakehurst. He has a high game of 300, which he rolled in this
week's semifinals, and a high series of 758. Norm was rolling a Columbia Boss II drilled
by Jim Erickson at Sunset Bowl. He said that his brother Curtis and his wife have helped
him to work on his game as they practice together a lot. Norm thanked his wife for her
support and Brunswick Zone Lakehurst for a great shot. Norm listed a new computer and a
shopping spree for his wife as things to do with his winnings. Norm said that while the
pressure was great in shooting his first 300, it was even greater having to beat his
teammate for the title.
CONGRATULATIONS NORM!
Tournament Notes: Congratulations to Bill Brown who rolled a nice
289+8=297 game to break a 285 Pot and collect $500. Nice bowling Bill!
