*** CUNNINGHAM ENDS DROUGHT AT BERTRAND'S ***
Rob Cunningham has been a member of the ABT for eight years. This week he
finally got his first title with a 223-158 victory over Tim Culp at Bertrand Lanes.
James Reed got things started in the stepladder finals by defeating Jack
Keith 246-209. Rob Cunningham then eliminated Reed 224-193 and Steven Garth, Jr. 246-177
to move into the title match against top seed Tim Culp. The championship match was close
for the first four frames, but Cunningham rattled off a 4-bagger in frames 5-8 to take
control of the match and he cruised home from there.
Champion's Profile: Rob Cunningham is 26 years old and employed as
a Production Worker at Abbott Labs. Rob is currently single and has a 5-year-old son named
Sean. Rob started bowling at the ripe old age of two and currently bowls leagues at
Bertrand's, Hawthorn, and Lakes Bowl. His high game is 300 and he has a high series of 781
to his credit. Rob's choice of equipment this week was a Storm Firepower drilled by Brian
Chilcutt at Hawthorn Lanes. He credits his dad, Roy Cunningham, as having taught him the
game. Rob thanked his dad and his girlfriend, Camella, for putting up with all his
bowling. He also thanked Bill Spigner and Brian Chilcutt for putting the right equipment
in his hands. Rob said that his winnings would be used for a trip to the ABC Nationals and
more ABT tournaments. Rob closed his interview with more thank you's for Bertrand Lanes,
the ABT staff, and Bruce and Diane Steidman for their support during the finals.
CONGRATULATIONS ROB!
Tournament Notes: Mike Kachurik was this week's winner in our Storm
bowling ball raffle.
