*** BARKER BREAKS THROUGH AT ROLLING MEADOWS ***
Matt Barker won his first ABT Masters title by defeating Steve Jansson
253-227 at AMF Rolling Meadows. Barker was the top qualifier for the top 12 finals,
earning him a bye in the first two rounds of match play. In round three, Barker defeated
Tony Arrate 227-220 to record his first win ever in ABT match play, having gone 0 for 17
in previous finals appearances. Steve Jansson qualified second for the top 12, earning him
a bye in round one of match play. He then defeated Geno Belfiore 260-200 and Dan Sloan
199-176 to advance to the title match. Jansson started the championship match with four
out of five strikes, but Barker did him one better, opening with a 5-bagger to take a
20-pin lead. Barker kept up the strike barrage with a double in the seventh and eighth
frames and another in the tenth to pull away for his second win in match play and his
first title, winning with the final score of 253-227.
Champion's Profile: Matt Barker is 24 years old and single. He is
employed as a Chef and a Culinary Arts Instructor. Matt has been bowling for sixteen years
and currently bowls leagues at Woodfield Lanes and AMF Rolling Meadows. His high game is
300 and he has a high series of 813. Matt was rolling a Storm El Nino drilled by Jeff
Daggett at Strike Zone Pro Shop inside AMF Rolling Meadows. Matt credits Bobby Bass as
being the best coach he's ever had, providing all the mental energy and moral support that
could be offered. He also singled out Paul Seputis for convincing him that he does have
the ability to bowl well. Matt thanked his parents and Bobby and Geri Bass along with all
his friends who cheered him on during the finals. He also thanked Curt Aemisegger for a
great shot this week and the ABT for running a great organization and tournaments. Matt
said he would take his winnings to Vegas for the ABT Nationals to try to win some more.
Matt closed his interview by saying, "Thank God that I'm 2 and 19 in match play and
currently on a 2-game winning streak."
CONGRATULATIONS MATT!

Bowling Products by posting the high series on weekend number one of this 2-week event.
