*** CORNELL CAPTURES ST. PATRICK'S DAY TITLE ***
Pat Cornell made his ABT debut a very successful one as he topped the
field for a $4,300 pay day at Rynish Bowling Center. Pat qualified 4th for the top 12
finals and advanced by defeating Jack Haas 237-181, Dave Rakowski 270-223, and Jason
Wojnar 226-170. His opponent for the title was Steve Jansson, who qualified 1st to earn a
bye in the first two rounds of match play. In round three, Steve defeated John Sypniewski
239-221 to earn his berth in the title match. Jansson couldn't find the range on the
championship pair but Cornell had no problems as he rattled off the front six strikes and
was never challenged, going on to win by the final score of 260-182.
Champion's Profile: Pat Cornell is 49 years old and employed at
Patton Screw Products. He is married to Brenda and they have a 26-year-old daughter named
Trisha. Pat has been bowling for 32 years and currently bowls leagues at Hawthorn and Fair
Haven Lanes. His high game is 300 and he has an 857 high series to his credit. Pat was
rolling a Columbia Titanium Messenger drilled by Bill Spigner. Pat said that the late
Larry Claeys helped coach him when he first started bowling and Bill Spigner has helped
him for the last year or so. Pat thanked Bill Spigner for his help in equipment choices.
He also thanked his wife for her support and the ABT and Rynish for having the tournament.
Pat said his winnings would be used for the ABC's in April and some golf this summer. He
also said that this was his first ABT tournament and he loved it.
CONGRATULATIONS PAT!
Tournament Notes: Congratulations to $500 Strike Pot winners Joe
Madanski and Keith Garrett. Anthony Chorak won the 3-ball bag from Storm by posting the
high series on weekend number one.
The "Front 9" strike pot is now being discontinued and will soon
be replaced with a new optional.
