*** BLOEMKER WINS AT ZONE ***
Ralph Bloemker won his fourth ABT title by defeating Rick Wunder 198-185
at Brunswick Zone in Algonquin.
Mark Bester opened the stepladder finals by defeating Vincent Santucci
207-190. Bester then eliminated Tim McIlvanie 173-158 before falling to Rick Wunder
180-171. Wunder doubled to start the championship match and take a slight lead, but
Bloemker came back with a double in the 3rd and 4th frames then again in the 6th and 7th
frames to forge a 24-pin lead entering the final two frames. Bloemker struck in the 9th
but missed a 7-pin in the 10th to give Wunder a chance to win with a double in the 10th
frame. Wunder's first shot in the 10th was high, leaving a 7-pin, and the match was over.
Champion's Profile: Ralph Bloemker is 59 years old and employed as
a Custodian for Joliet Junior College. He is married to Henny and they have three grown
children: Sheryl, Pam, and Tim, as well as 13 grandchildren. Ralph has been bowling for 30
years and currently bowls in the ABT Vegas League at Espo's Country Lanes and at Lombard Lanes and
Brunswick Zone in Naperville. His high game is 280 and he has a 737 high series to his
credit. Ralph was using a Storm
Bolt Pro drilled by Leon Burhoff at Bowlers Corner inside Lombard Lanes. Ralph thanked God
for giving him the ability to bowl, Brunswick Zone for a nice shot, the ABT staff for
running a first class tournament, his wife Henny for all her support, and Brian Leonard,
Michelle DeBenedictis, and Dolores Finley for their support during the finals. Ralph said
his winnings would be used to pay some bills and make a donation to his church.
CONGRATULATIONS RALPH!
Tournament Notes: Congratulations to Jeremy Demiglio whose recent
performances have earned him his "diploma". Jeremy has been graduated from our
Classic Division and will now test his skills in the Masters. Nice bowling, Jeremy.
