*** MARKS WINS AT ROLLING MEADOWS ***
Shavonda Marks won her first ABT Classic title by defeating Karl Grosse 207-205 at AMF Rolling Meadows. Peter Roden opened the stepladder finals by defeating Linda Scaletta 192-168. Karl Grosse then defeated Roden 187-179 and Harold Morton 193-184 to move into the championship match against Shavonda Marks. Marks had a 36-pin handicap advantage to start the match but Grosse chipped away and cut it to 14 after just four frames. Shavonda doubled in the 4th and 5th frames to rebuild her lead, but Karl wouldn't quit and entering the last frame Karl still had a chance to win. Needing a double to win, Karl struck on his first shot but pulled his second shot high as Shavonda hung on for the final 207-205 victory.
Champion's Profile: Shavonda Marks is 30 years old and employed as a Research Data Technician. She is single and has been bowling for about five years. Shavonda currently bowls league at Brunswick Zone Lakehurst. She has a high game of 256 that she rolled in this week's semifinals and a 606 high series to her credit. Shavonda was using a 10 lb. Galaxie 300 that she has had for so long that she can't remember where she got it. She thanked Cynthia Wilson for her support, AMF Rolling Meadows for hosting the tournament, and the ABT for giving all bowlers a chance to compete. Shavonda said her winnings would be used for a trip to the women's Nationals in Reno.
