*** SAWYER WINS THIRD TITLE AT BROADVIEW ***
Susan Sawyer won her third ABT Classic title by defeating top seed Marilyn Sypniewski 206-193 at Broadview Bowl.
Ferdinand Fortes opened the stepladder finals by defeating Gary Taylor 207-187. Fortes then eliminated Doretha Miller 219-213 before falling to Susan Sawyer 168-159. Top seed Marylin Sypniewski had a 42-pin handicap advantage to start the championship match and spared in her first five frames to hold most of that lead. Susan kept chipping away, however, and when Marilyn opened in four of the last five frames, Susan stayed clean to overcome the handicap edge and win by the final score of 206-193.
Champion's Profile: Susan Sawyer is 23 years old and single. She is employed as an Account Manager for Thilmin & Filippini LLC. Susan has been bowling for 15 years and bowls league at Oak Forest Lanes. She has a high game of 279 and a high series of 802 to her credit. Susan was using an AMF Night Hawk drilled by Jim Williams. She credits Jim Williams, Mark Schlink and Tom Sawyer for all their support. She also thanked the ABT staff and Broadview Bowl for hosting the tournament. Susan said her winnings would be used to pay some bills and to take Mark and Tom out to dinner.
