*** SPILLER WINS CHICAGOLAND OPEN TITLE ***
Brian Spiller won the $10,000 first prize in our Storm Chicagoland Open at
Lombard Lanes. Brian qualified 17th for the top 24 finals and advanced by
defeating Jere Carter 222-151, Carl Smith 226-189, Alan Jankowski 289-227, and
Lynn Koenen 236-187. His opponent for the title was Kent Nadler who qualified
19th and advanced with wins over Anthony Grochowalski 251-221, Jim Fishman
262-216, Lorenzo Jones 240-180, and Mike Meifert 271-237. Brian took control of
the championship match right from the outset as he struck in 5 of the first 6
frames. Meanwhile Kent was never able to get untracked on the championship pair
allowing Brian to pull away to a final 224-184 victory.
Champion's Profile: Brian Spiller is 32 years old and employed as a
Project Administrator for IBM. He has been bowling for 24 years and bowls league
at Hawthorn Lanes. Brian has a high game of 300 and a high series of 803 to his
credit. He was using a Columbia Pulse drilled by Jeff Daggett at Strike Zone Pro
Shop inside AMF Rolling Meadows. Brian said that Jeff Daggett and Curt
Aemisegger have been instrumental in helping him to develop his game. Brian
thanked Jill Secor for all of her love, support, and encouragement over the past
four years and all of his friends for their support during this event. Brian
said his winnings would go towards a house fund and a couple of other uses that
could not be mentioned just yet. Brian also thanked Lombard Lanes and the entire
ABT staff for a smooth and well run event with special thanks going to Ed and
Lorraine for doing such a great job in Chicago.
CONGRATULATIONS BRIAN!
Tournament Notes: A special thanks to all the members from around the
country who joined us to make this a very special event. We hope you enjoyed
being here as much as we enjoyed having you. We also want to thank the entire
staff of Lombard Lanes who obviously took as much pride in this event as we did.
And last, but certainly not least, we want to thank all of the volunteers whose
tireless efforts made this event possible. We are already planning for next
year!
