***ADKINS WINS FIRST AT ESPO'S***

Mary Adkins won her first ABT Classic title by defeating Scott O'Neill 229-181 at Espo's Country Lanes. Donnie Grillo opened the stepladder finals by defeating Thomas Lareine 186-179. Gabriel Rodriguez then eliminated Grillo 224-188 before falling to Scott O'Neill 266-155. In the title match Scott started with a double to wipe out Mary's 12-pin handicap advantage, but Mary came back with a double of her own in frames 4 and 5 to reclaim the lead. A couple of missed spare opportunities for Scott in frames 5 and 6 allowed Mary to boost her lead to 40 pins and she cruised from there, winning by the final score of 229-181.

Champion's Profile: Mary Adkins is 68 years old and retired though she still works part time as a Beautician. She has 4 adult children, Kathy, Jane, Rick, and Terri, 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Mary has been bowling since age 18 and currently bowls league at Don Carter Lanes and Park Lanes. She has a high game of 279 and a 679 high series to her credit. Mary was rolling a Storm Blue Thunder drilled by Tom Rippentrop at Metro Pro Shop. She thanked Gary Krohmer for his support, the ABT for having the tournament, and Espo's for this week's lane conditions. Mary plans to use her winnings for the ABT and ABC Nationals. Her final comment was: "I still can't believe I did this."

CONGRATULATIONS MARY!
