***hykes captures
third masters title***
Peter Hykes won his third Masters
title by defeating Jon Chonar 187-170 at Wheaton Bowl. Gordon Anderson opened
the stepladder finals by defeating Dennis Gregorich 245-196 and Rob Taylor
203-169. Anderson then fell to Jon Chonar 219-205 to set up the title match. The
championship match was a see-saw affair, with the lead changing three times
before Hykes finally put it away by doubling in the 10th frame to earn the
187-170 win.
Champion's Profile: Peter Hykes
is 58 years old and employed as a Supervisor. He is married to Barbara and they
have three grown children: Timothy, Rodney, and Aubrey. Peter has been bowling
for 30 years and does his league bowling at Lombard Lanes. He has a high game of
300 to go along with an 816 high series as his personal bests. Peter was using
an Ebonite Gyro drilled by Joe Bacagaluppi at Back to Basics Pro Shop, inside
Espo's Country Lanes. Peter said that he learned to bowl by watching other
people play. He thanked his wife for putting up with all his bowling, Ed and
Lorraine for running the ABT, and Wheaton Bowl for hosting the event. Peter said
that his winnings would be used for Christmas shopping. Peter also said that he
really appreciates the entire ABT staff for all the effort that goes into
operating a fair and well-run tournament each week.
CONGRATULATIONS peter!
Tournament Notes: Congratulations to Mark Matz and Tom
Variola, who each won $500 by breaking 295 pots. Nice bowling!
This week's winners in the Storm raffle were Bill Bushman and
Joe Lambert.
