Rick Hara won his fourth ABT Masters title in our 2001 Kick-Off Tournament at Rynish Bowling Center. Rick qualified seventh for the top eight finals and advanced by defeating Jeff Stanish 229-212 and Mike Martenson 218-190. His opponent for the title, Jack Keith, qualified first and advanced with victories over Mark Clark 221-211 and Brian Smith 233-217. The championship match was tied after six frames but Keith chopped a spare opportunity in the seventh frame and Hara took control with a turkey in frames seven through nine to go on to win by the final score of 232-211.
Champion's Profile: Rick Hara is 39 years old and employed as a mortgage planner. He is single and has been bowling for 34 years. Rick currently bowls league at Diversey River Bowl and has a high game of 300 and a high series of 810 to his credit. He was using an Ebonite Matrix Trimax I drilled by Jose Torres at Action Pro Shop, inside Diversey River Bowl. Rick thanked the ABT and Rynish for a good tournament. He also thanked Dan Hayes and Mike Truitt. Rick said his winnings would be used for the ABT Nationals.
BTD: In the Beat the Director match, ABT Director Ed Mousseau defeated Rich Nolte 232-154. Rich received the $25 Consolation Award. Diana Murphey won the $25 Spectator Bonus Award. The carryover now stands at $1,316. Next BTD on Feb. 18 at AMF Rolling Meadows.
