Henrietta Bloemker won her first ABT Classic title by defeating four opponents at Espo's Country Lanes. Henny qualified fourth for the stepladder finals and started her climb to the top by defeating Leroy Walker 230-162. She then squeaked by Wayne Crampton 192-189 and edged out Nancy Hornung 187-179 to advance to the title match against top seed Richard Mikel. The championship match was dead even after three frames, but Henny strung a five-bagger in frames three through seven to pull away and win by the final score of 248-214.
Champion's Profile: Henny Bloemker is 57 years old and employed as a Sales Support Specialist for Nortel Networks. She is married to Ralph and has three adult stepchildren. Henny has been bowling for 15 years and currently bowls in the ABT Vegas League at Espo's. She also bowls leagues at Lombard Lanes and Brunswick Gala West. Henny has a high game of 258 to her credit to go along with a 615 high series. She was using a Columbia Beast drilled by Leon Burhoff at Lombard Lanes. Henny said that her husband, Ralph, helps her with his coaching. She thanked Sessie Spencer, the ABT staff, and everyone who supported her during the finals this week. She also thanked Espo's for hosting the tournament. Henny said her winnings would be used for the ABT Nationals in Vegas for her and Ralph. She closed her interview by saying, "I never thought I could do this."
Tournament Notes: Congratulations to Yoon Hong, who won $500 by breaking a 285 Pot. Nice bowling, Yoon!
