Raffy Asdigian won his first ABT Classic title by defeating John Zola 267-223 at AMF Rolling Meadows. Raffy qualified second for the top eight finals and advanced to the championship match by defeating Joe Lambert 232-227 and Don Kaskadden 192-170. John Zola was the top qualifier and he advanced with victories over Randy Oya 224-188 and Bryan Falconer 214-197. Zola bowled well and stayed clean in the championship match, but it wasn't enough as Asdigian rolled a turkey in frames three through five, then strung a five-bagger from the seventh frame on to lock up the title 267-223.
Champion's Profile: Raffy Asdigian is 28 years old and employed as an EDM Operator. He is single and has been bowling for the past five years. He bowls league at AMF Hoffman Lanes and has a high game of 278 and a 721 high series to his credit. Raffy was rolling and Ebonite Apex drilled by John Berg at New Approach Pro Shop inside AMF Hoffman Lanes. Raffy said that Brad Snell and John Berg have helped him to improve his game. He thanked them for their help and Darrell and Cindy Thelen for all their support. Raffy said his winnings would go towards bills and a savings account. He also said that he wants people to know that you can come back from a severe injury if you just keep trying and be patient.
Tournament Notes: Congratulations to Melvin Mosley, Jr., who won $500 by breaking a 285 Pot. Nice bowling, Mel! This week's winner in our ball raffle was Jim Prescott.
BTD: In the Beat the Director Match, ABT Director Ed Mousseau defeated Charlie Carpenter 205-170. Charlie received the $25 Consolation Award. Bill Brown won the $25 Spectator Bonus Award. The carryover now stands at $1,584.00. Next BTD: March 18th at Rynish Bowling Center.
