Rich Ebel, Jr. won his first Chicagoland ABT title with a 212-186 victory over Reid Flammang at Brunswick Zone Lakehurst.
Don Trainor opened the stepladder finals by defeating Earmon Taylor 262-177. Reid Flammang then ousted Trainor 203-198 and Kevin Rondoni 219-196 to advance to the title match against top seed Rich Ebel, Jr. The championship match was much closer than the final score would indicate, with Flammang building an early lead and holding it through seven frames. Ebel doubled in the seventh and eighth frames to take his first lead in the match, then Flammang left a "big four" in frame 9 to seal his fate as Ebel finished spare, strike, spare to win by the final score of 212-186.
Champion's Profile: Rich Ebel, Jr. is a member of our Western Michigan Branch and after many visits to Chicagoland, he finally made his first cut to the semifinals. Rich is 51 years old and self-employed as a builder. He is married to Evie and they have two adult children, Karen and Kathy. Rich has been bowling for 27 years and currently bowls leagues at Spectrum and Chezamie Lanes in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He has a high game of 300 and a 765 high series to his credit. Rich was using a TPS 3 and a Timberwolf drilled by JR's Drill Center. He credits fellow ABT members Jack Kavanaugh and Jerry Gitchel as having helped him with his game. Rich thanked Lakehurst and the ABT for having this week's event. His winnings will be used to "eat, bowl, and have fun."
Tournament Notes: This week's Storm ball raffle winner was Jim Trentadue.
