Ed Seliga won his first ABT Masters title by defeating Glen Hudson, Jr. 221-201 at Brunswick Zone Lakehurst.
Jack Haas opened the stepladder finals by defeating George Radke 212-209. Ed Seliga then defeated Haas 268-203 and Peter Hykes 249-168 to advance to the title match against top seed Glen Hudson, Jr. The championship match was extremely close for the first seven frames, with Hudson clinging to a one-pin lead at that point. The match turned in the eighth when Hudson flagged a four pin. Seliga struck in the eighth and ninth to take the lead. Hudson struck out in the ninth and tenth to force Seliga to mark, but he was up to the task as he too struck out in the tenth to win by the final score of 221-201.
Champion's Profile: Ed Seliga is 41 years old and single. He is employed as a Quality Supervisor at Abbott Labs. Ed has been bowling off and on for about 25 years and currently bowls leagues at Guttormsen's Rec Center and Surfside Lanes. He has a high game of 300 and an 802 high series to his credit. Ed was rolling a Columbia Rock On that he drilled himself at Dick Beltoya's Pro Shop. Ed said that Dick Beltoya has helped his game by teaching him ball drilling and lane positioning. He thanked the ABT staff and Lakehurst for hosting the event. He also thanked the spectators who stayed for the finals for their support and Ed and Lorraine for running an excellent tournament. Ed said he would bank his winnings for now to be used for future ABT tournaments. He also said that he enjoys bowling in the ABT and doesn't mind the travel to some of the farther centers. He especially likes the competition and camaraderie of the other ABT bowlers.
Tournament Notes: This week's Storm ball raffle winner was Jim Trentadue.
