Russ Krueger won his first ABT Masters title with a 254-227 victory over Anthony Calarco at AMF Bolingbrook.
Tony Pezzulo opened the stepladder finals by defeating John Scaletta 248-211. Pezzulo then ousted Dwight Bergner 219-194 before falling to Anthony Calarco 271-174. The title match was close with top seed Russ Krueger holding a seven-pin lead at the end of eight frames. Calarco stayed clean in the last two frames, but Krueger struck out to ice the victory by the final score of 254-227.
Champion's Profile: Russ Krueger is 46 years old and employed as a tool and die maker. He is currently single and has two children, Bryon and Kristopher. Russ has been bowling for 32 years and bowls league at Glenwood Bowl. His high game is 300 and he has a 782 high series to his credit. Russ was using an Angle Evolution drilled by Larry Roberts at Galkas Pro Shop. He credits Larry Roberts and Jan Soria as having helped him with his game. Russ thanked Jan for having talked him out of quitting bowling. His winnings will be used to pay off some bills. Russ also thanked the ABT for providing a friendly environment to compete in, making him feel at home.
