Gene Reynolds won his first Chicagoland ABT title by defeating Jan Flynn 192-179 at Stardust Bowl. John Zola opened the stepladder finals by defeating Steven Finnegan 185-148. Alfredo Manno then ousted Zola 200-168. Gene Reynolds then eliminated Manno 229-217 to advance to the title match against top seed Jan Flynn. Jan left a washout and a split early in the match, allowing Gene to build a 23-pin lead after four frames. He maintained that lead through most of the game. A double by Jan in the ninth and tenth frames was too little, too late as Gene hung on to win by the final score of 192-179.
Champion's Profile: Gene Reynolds is 60 years old and employed as a Teacher at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station. He is married to Janine and they have two daughters, Meghann and Natasha, ages 14 and 16. Gene has been bowling for 23 years and bowls league at Guttormsen Rec in Kenosha. He has a high game of 280 to his credit to go along with a 699 high series. Gene was using a Fab 4D Hammer drilled by G.W. Gregg. Gene credits the Dick Ritger Bowling School as having helped his game. Gene thanked his wife for her patience, G.W. Gregg for drilling his equipment and the ABT and Stardust Bowl for having the tournament. He said part of his winnings would be used to buy something nice for his wife.
Beat the Director: In the Beat the Director Match, ABT Director Ed Mousseau defeated Jan Flynn 226-180. Jan received the $25 Consolation prize. Karl Grosse won the $25 Spectator Bonus Award. The carryover for the next BTD now stands at $512.00.
