*** kavanaugh wins first chicagoland title ***

Jack Kavanaugh won his first ABT Chicagoland title by defeating Verdell Love, Jr. 223-218 at Glenwood Bowl.

Catrice Moton opened the stepladder finals by defeating Leo Trudeau, Jr. 234-190. Harry Lopez then ousted Moton 225-209 before falling to Jack Kavanaugh 229-205. Top seed Verdell Love, Jr. had a 43-pin handicap advantage to start the championship match, but Kavanaugh kept chipping away, and at the end of seven frames, Love's lead was down to 27 pins. It was here that the wheels fell off for Verdell as he opened in the last three frames, allowing Jack to come from behind to win the match.

Champion's Profile: Jack Kavanaugh is 62 years old and retired. He is married to Emily and they have four grown children: Diane, Dawn, Debbie, and Elizabeth. Jack has been bowling for 42 years and bowls league at Spector Lanes in Grand Rapids. He has a high game of 279 and a 747 high series to his credit. Jack was using an Ebonite Timber Wolf drilled by Mike Marks at Grand Rapids Pro Shop. Jack thanked his traveling buddies, Rich Ebel, Jerry Gitchel, and the whole Grand Rapids crowd for their help and support. He also thanked the ABT staff and Glenwood Bowl. Jack said his winnings would be used to bowl more tournaments.

CONGRATULATIONS Jack!
