*** aemisegger ends singles drought ***

Curt Aemisegger used the new eight-man stepladder finals format to end a 23-month drought and claim his seventh Masters title in our event at Sunset Bowl. Had this been the usual top five format, Curt's 645 series in the semis would have earned him a seventh place finish, but the expanded finals field gave him the chance he needed and he took full advantage. In game one, Curt Aemisegger 257 defeated Harold Morton 209 and Peg George 190. In game two, Curt defeated Peter Hykes 49.4 - 43 in a two-frame roll-off after they tied at 248 with Pat Cornell finishing at 204. Match three was another nail-biter as Aemisegger 229 defeated Bill Utter 228 and Ed Seliga 208 to advance to the championship match against top seed James Jerousek. Had Jerousek been able to carry, the title match would have been much closer than the score would indicate, but six consecutive nine counts by Jerousek to start the match saw him fall behind by 33 pins as Aemisegger went on to win by the final score of 250-214.

Champion's Profile: Curt Aemisegger is 46 years old and employed as the Head Mechanic for Hawthorn Lanes. He has a 13-year-old son named Brian. Curt has been bowling since age eight and currently bowls leagues at Espo's Country Lanes, Poplar Creek Bowl, and Hawthorn Lanes. His high game is 300 and he has a high series of 858. Curt was using a Columbia Outrage drilled by Jeff Daggett at Strike Zone Pro Shop. He credits Mitch Sacks and Bill Spigner as having helped him to work on his game. Curt thanked Sunset Bowl for hosting the tournament and Jeff Daggett, Karen Ellingsworth, Bill Spigner, and Brian Chilcutt for their ball drilling. Curt said his winnings would be used for the ABT Spring Nationals in Las Vegas. Curt also thanked the ABT staff, saying that without them, these tournaments wouldn't be possible.

CONGRATULATIONS curt!

Tournament Notes: Congratulations to Bill Utter, who won $500 by breaking a 295 Pot. Nice bowling, Bill!

I believe our first experiment with the eight-man stepladder finals was successful in accomplishing some of the goals we had in mind. It took a cut score of just +32 to make the finals, giving everyone a better chance to "win it all". I also feel that the format was more exciting for the bowlers involved and the spectators who stayed to watch. What do you think?
