Dennis Kenny won his first ABT Masters title
with a 222-189 Victory over Paul Bober at Brunswick Zone Lakehurst.
In match one of the eight-man stepladder
finals, Dan Sloan 236 defeated Donald Dahm 224 and Leroy Walker 211. In
match two, Tim Culp 236 defeated Dan Sloan 222 and Bobby Wright 191. In
match three, Paul Bober 216 defeated Tim Culp 204 and J. S. Scaletta 197
to advance to the title match against top seed Dennis Kenny. Dennis had an
18-pin handicap advantage to start the match, but Paul chipped away, and
at the end of six frames it was dead even. Paul left a rail in frame
eight, allowing Dennis to retake the lead. Dennis then put it away with a
Turkey in the ninth and tenth frames.
Champion's Profile: Dennis Kenny is
45 years old and employed as a service writer for Victor Ford. He is
married to Kimberly and they have two children, Jake and Luke, ages ten
and six. Dennis started bowling about 25 years ago, but this is just his
second year back after a 12-year layoff. He is currently bowling league at
3D Bowl and has a high game of 300 and a high series of 802 to his credit.
Dennis was using a Columbia Ricochet drilled by Ron Nelson at Ron Nelson's
Pro Shop in Wheeling. He thanked the ABT and Lakehurst for having the
tournament, Neil Hulvey for his support, and his wife Kimberly for putting
up with him. Dennis said his winnings would be used to pay some bills.
This was the first time since joining a year ago that Dennis made it past
the qualifying round, which goes to show that perseverance pays.
CONGRATULATIONS dennis!
