David Watkins won his first Chicagoland
Masters title in our tournament at Stardust Bowl.
In match one of the eight-man stepladder
finals, Larry Lynd 232 defeated George Ristoff 187 and John Carlson 183.
In match two, Lynd 200 defeated John White 177 and Greg Antonov 167. In
match three, Lynd 228 defeated Carmelo Rosa 221 and David Fitzpatrick 200
to advance to the title match against top seed David Watkins. Larry Lynd
started the championship match with a turkey and took a four-pin lead
after four frames. David Watkins closed the show from there, finishing
with an eight-bagger to pull away to the final 268-214 victory.
Champion's Profile: David Watkins is
43 years old and employed as a Manager for Meyer Retail. He is married to
Laurel and they share nine children ranging in age from three months to
twenty years old. David has been bowling for 20 years and currently bowls
leagues in Grand Rapids, MI. He has a high game of 289 and a 784 high
series to his credit. David was rolling a Blue Hammer drilled at C & C
Sports in Grand Rapids. David said that his brother, Gary, taught him to
bowl. He thanked his wife for letting him come this week, his traveling
buddies Rich Ebel and Jack Kavanaugh, all the ABT members, and Stardust
Bowl for having the tournament. David said that with nine kids, you could
well imagine how his winnings would be used.
