Ron Gwaltney won his first ABT Masters title
by defeating Jim Prescott, Jr. 229-161 at Brunswick Zone Thunderbird.
In match one of the eight-man stepladder
finals, Dan Annel 242 defeated Tom Cole, Jr. 220 and Kent Nadler 190. In
match two, Jack Keith 229 defeated Curt Aemisegger 201 and Dan Annel 173.
In match three, Ron Gwaltney 240 defeated Matt Barker 210 and Jack Keith
206 to earn his shot at top seed Jim Prescott, Jr. Prescott dug himself a
hole with rails in three of the first six frames, and Gwaltney proceeded
to fill the hole up as he strung a five-bagger in frames six through ten
to account for the final score of 229-161.
Champion's Profile: Ron Gwaltney is
38 years old and employed as a Sheet Metal Worker for RG Heating and Air
(his company). He is married to Sue and they have an 18-year-old son
called AJ. Ron got back into bowling about 13 years ago and currently
bowls leagues at Don Carter Lanes and Park Lanes. His high game is 300 and
he has an 826 high series to his credit. Ron was using a Columbia Rock On,
drilled by Greg Evans at Don Carter Pro Shop. Ron credits tips from Chris
Croak and equipment suggestions from Greg Evans as having helped his game.
He thanked his wife, Sue, for talking him into bowling this week, his son
AJ for his support, and the ABT staff and Brunswick Zone Thunderbird for
having the tournament. Ron said his winnings would be used for the ABC
Nationals in Billings in a couple of weeks. He closed his interview by
saying: "I did it, Curt!"
CONGRATULATIONS ron!
