Clarence Arledge won his first ABT Classic
title by defeating Jimmy Tong 208-179 at Hawthorn Lanes.
In match one of the top eight stepladder
finals, Tracy Vinson 226 defeated John Claussen 167 and Gerardo Mascorro
164. In match two, Eugene Bryant 189 defeated Tracy Vinson 172/34.8 and
John Johnson 172/31.6. In match three, Clarence Arledge 224 defeated
Eugene Bryant 176 and Brandy Bobrick 172 to advance to the title match
against top seed Jimmy Tong. The championship match was a seesaw affair,
with the lead changing hands several times. The turning point came in the
last two frames when Jimmy missed consecutive spares and Clarence doubled
in the tenth frame to put the match away.
Champion's Profile: Clarence Arledge
is 46 years old and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He is married to Sheila and
they have an 11-year-old child named Shannon. Clarence has been bowling
for 34 years and currently bowls at Rynish Bowling Center. He has a high
game of 283 and a 603 high series to his credit. Clarence was using a
Columbia Ricochet drilled by GW Gregg. He credits tips from Dick Weber as
having helped him to develop his game. Clarence thanked Ed for convincing
him to keep trying and all the spectators for their support. He said his
winnings would be used to pay off some bills.
CONGRATULATIONS clarence!
