Neal Mestling won his first ABT Masters title with a 209-199 victory over Dan Annel at Brunswick Zone Lakehurst. In match one of the eight-man stepladder finals, Brian Kaddatz 236 defeated Pat Woods 194 and Tom Variola 191. In match two, John F. Scaletta 227 defeated Jason Wojnar 200 and Brian Kaddatz 171. In match three, Dan Annel 267 defeated John F. Scaletta 248 and Dennis Dostalek 191 to advance to the championship match against top seed Neal Mestling. Annel led through the first nine frames of the title match, but a turkey by Mestling in the ninth and tenth frames forced Annel to mark in the tenth to hold on to the win. With the pressure on, Annel pulled his first shot high, leaving the 4-7-10 split, which he was unable to convert, giving Mestling the come from behind win by the final score of 209-199. Champion's Profile: Neal Mestling is 24 years old and single. He is a graduate school student and also works for a marketing company. Neal has been bowling for 12 years and currently bowls league at Hawthorn Lanes. He has a high game of 300 and a 797 high series to his credit. Neal was using an Ebonite Vortex drilled by Jeff Daggett at Strike Zone Pro Shop in Rolling Meadows. Neal credits Jeff Daggett and Karen Ellingsworth as having helped him to develop his game. He thanked them for their help along with the ABT staff and Brunswick Zone Lakehurst. His winnings will be used for tuition.
