Doug Broker won his first ABT Classic title by defeating top seed Linda Scaletta 196-185 at Wheaton Bowl.

In match one of the top eight stepladder finals, Kraig Hill 212 defeated Courtney Richards 189 and Ken Kuta 177. In match two, Hill 226 defeated James Stepuncik 210 and Charles Carpenter 164. In match three, Doug Broker 219 defeated James Mrizek 191 and Kraig Hill 175 to advance to the title match against top seed Linda Scaletta. In the championship match, Doug left a 4-7-10 split in the first frame and then missed a spare in the third, allowing Linda to build an 18-pin lead. Linda then left rails in the fourth and sixth frames and Doug went ahead by one pin. The ninth frame was the deciding point as Linda missed a spare while Doug stayed clean the rest of the way, earning the hard fought 196-185 decision.

Champion's Profile: Doug Broker is 54 years old and employed as a Regional Sales Manager for Newtex Industries. He is married to Christine and they have two daughters, Sheri and Diana. Doug has been back in bowling for three years after a 40-year break. He currently bowls league at Lombard Lanes and has a high game of 289 to his credit, along with a high series of 699. Doug was using a Predator drilled by Leon Burhoff at Lombard Lanes. Doug said that Tom Cook has helped him to improve his game. He thanked Rick and Deeann Hansen for their support, the people at Lombard Lanes, the ABT and Wheaton Bowl for having the tournament. Doug said his winnings would be used to take his grandchildren to the Wisconsin Dells. Doug also said he was really happy and even more surprised that he was able to win.
