Mike Maguire won his first ABT Masters title in our Labor Day Open at Hawthorn Lanes. Mike qualified 14th for the top 16 match play and used victories over Dan Matasek 204-189, Boots Kaas 230-166, and Gabe Rodriguez 210-190 to earn his berth in the title match. His opponent in the final match was David Watkins, who qualified third and then advanced by defeating Linda Carter 224-221, George Radke 277-249, and Greg Antonov 199-198. The championship match was close for seven frames, but Watkins opened the door with a 3-7 split in the eighth frame and Maguire slammed it shut with a double in the ninth and tenth to pull away to the final 246-212 victory. Champion's Profile: Mike Maguire is 43 years old and employed by CBS Realtors. He is single and has been bowling for 35 years. Mike currently bowls leagues at Bertrand Lanes, Lakes Bowl, and Sunset Bowl. His high game is 300 and he has a 789 high series to his credit. Mike was using Storm equipment drilled by George Lawrence at Bertrand Lanes. He credits Rich Newland and Joe Piagentini as having helped him to develop his game.
