Angelo Pancotto won his second ABT Masters
title in our Super Bowl event at Lombard Lanes. Angelo was top qualifier
for the top 12 finals, which earned him a bye in the first two rounds of
match play. In round three, he defeated Leroy Walker 259-177 to earn his
berth in the championship match. His opponent in the title match was
Anthony Calarco. Anthony qualified eighth and advanced by defeating Dave
Palojarvi, Sr. 215-202, Ron Sereyka 257-204, and Steve Morrissey 234-207.
The title match was close, with the lead changing hands several times. The
turning point came in the ninth frame when Anthony chopped the 6-10.
Angelo spared in the ninth then doubled in the tenth to clinch the victory
by the final score of 232-215.
Champion's
Profile: Angelo Pancotto is 52 years old and currently unemployed. A
stockbroker by trade, he is looking for a new job. Angelo is married to
Cheryl and they have a 23-year-old daughter named Jackie. Angelo currently
bowls leagues at Fox Bowl and Pioneer Lanes. His high game is 300 and he
has a high series of 790 to his credit. Angelo was using an Ebonite Vortex
Afterburner drilled by Frank Esposito at J&J Bowling Supply in Wheaton.
Angelo thanked Frank Esposito for help with his game, his wife and
daughter for all their support, and the ABT and Lombard Lanes for having
the tournament. Angelo said that his winnings would be used for some new
bowling shoes and to pay bills.
