Bob Winke won his first ABT Classic title by
defeating Janet Kulovitz 215-190 at Brunswick Zone Thunderbird.
In match one of the top eight finals, Marty
O'Donnell 254 defeated Tom Koller 193 and David Snow 190. In match two,
O'Donnell 212 defeated Sharon Irby 211 and Barbara Zecchin 189. In match
three, Bob Winke 239 defeated Anthony Sokolowski 185 and Marty O'Donnell
179 to advance to the title match against top seed Janet Kulovitz. Bob
turkeyed in frames two through four of the championship match to take a
27-pin lead. Janet cut into the lead with a double in the sixth and
seventh frames, but she opened in the eighth and tenth, allowing Bob to
rebuild the lead and go on to win by the final score of 215-190.
Champion's
Profile: Bob Winke is 33 years old and employed as a systems analyst.
He is married to Toni and they have a four-year-old daughter, Gina. Bob
has been bowling for 12 years and currently bowls leagues at Streamwood
and Lombard Lanes. He has a high game of 289 and a 742 high series to his
credit. Bob was using a Storm Trauma drilled by Jerry Belluzzi. Bob
credits Jim, Wally, and Russ Brandt along with Jim Trentadue as having
helped him with his game. He thanked Robert and Jon Winke and the Brandts
for their support and his wife for letting him bowl. Bob said he would
save part of his winnings for the Spring Nationals and use the rest for
Christmas. Bob also said that it really felt good to win after ten long
years of trying.
