*** lopez wins third
title***
|
Jose Lopez won his third ABT Classic title
by defeating Miguel Diaz 167-163 at Bertrand Lanes.
Richard Phillips opened the stepladder
finals by defeating John Claussen 187-180. Phillips then eliminated
William Rios 209-175 before falling to Miguel Diaz 233-228. The title
match between top seed Jose Lopez and Miguel Diaz was a hard fought
affair. It looked as though Diaz had control as he led by 21 pins after
seven frames, but when he missed consecutive spares in the eighth and
ninth frames, the door was opened for Lopez. Jose stayed clean for the
last four frames and that was just enough to eke out the narrow four-pin
victory.
Champion's
Profile: Jose Lopez is 54 years old and married to Maria. They have
three grown children: Suzey, Mary, and Jose Jr. Jose has been bowling for
34 years and currently bowls league at Brunswick Lakehurst. He has a high
game of 289 and a 676 high series to his credit. Jose was using an Ebonite
Apex drilled by Jim Erickson at Sunset Bowl. He credits his son, Jose Jr.,
as having helped him to improve his game. Jose thanked his family for
their support, along with the ABT and Bertrands for having the tournament.
Jose said that his winnings would be used for the Las Vegas Nationals in
March.
congratulations
Jose!
