*** malec wins first at lakewood***

Wayne Malec won his first ABT Classic title by defeating Chad Schliepp 206-193 at Lakewood Bowl.

Wayne was top seeded for the stepladder finals and waited in the wings as the other four finalists battled it out to earn their berth in the championship match. Lori Hagy started things off by defeating Jim Trentadue 207-181. Tim Boulware then eliminated Hagy 196-189. Next up was Chad Schliepp, who ousted Boulware 213-175 to move into the title match against Wayne Malec. This one was a nail-biter that went into the tenth frame with Malec clinging to a two-pin lead. Schliepp finished up first and left a washout in the tenth that he was unable to convert, leaving the door wide open for Malec who filled 20 in the tenth frame to win by the final score of 206-193.

Champion's Profile: Wayne Malec is 56 years old and employed as an electrical engineer for Crown Cork and Seal Company. He is married to Sharon and they have two grown children, David and Linda. Wayne has been bowling for 35 years and currently bowls leagues at Brunswick Zone Lakeside and Lombard Lanes. His high game is 300 and he has a 711 high series to his credit. Wayne was using a Track Hextreme drilled by Joe Bacagaluppi at Back to Basics Pro Shop, inside Espo's Entertainment Center in Elgin. Wayne credits Joe Bacagaluppi and Mike Martenson as having helped him with his game. He thanked his wife for putting up with all his bowling and the ABT and Lakewood Bowl for having the tournament. Wayne said his winnings would go towards vacation, Christmas, and bills. He also said to keep the tournaments coming and that he was looking forward to next week.

congratulations Wayne!
