Charlie Carpenter won his first ABT Classic
title by defeating Lynda Weatherall 222-190 in our Thanksgiving Special at
AMF Rolling Meadows. Charlie qualified fifth for the top 12 finals then
advanced by defeating Linda Scaletta 218-204, Rich Manno 214-186, and Jon
Sanchez 179-154. Lynda Weatherall qualified seventh then eliminated Gordon
Olson 231-193, Diane Harrison 255-175, and Ron Levine 238-169. In the
title match Charlie and Lynda matched spares for the first three frames
but Lynda left a split in the fourth while Charlie countered with a strike
to build a 19-pin lead. Charlie doubled in the sixth and seventh frames to
increase the lead to 29 pins and he was able to cruise from there.
