John Scaletta worked his way past four
opponents to end a 3½ year drought and claim his
fourth ABT Masters title. John qualified 5th for the stepladder finals and
barely got by his first match with a 184-183 win over Steve Lunsford. He
then eliminated Jim Wagenaar 238-203 and George Krulatz 209-181 to advance
to the title match against top seed Dennis Kenny. The championship was
dead even after eight frames. Dennis, who chose to finish first, spared in
the ninth but then missed a 3 pin in the tenth, leaving the door wide open
for John who doubled in the ninth and tenth to put the match away by the
final score of 234-215.
Champion's
Profile: John Scaletta is 53 years old and employed as a bank manager
for Itasca Bank and Trust. He is married to Linda and they have two grown
children, Lisa and J.S. John started bowling in youth leagues and
currently bowls leagues at Espo's and Stardust. His high game is 300 and
he has a high series of 835. John was using a Columbia Icon drilled by Joe
Bacagaluppi at Back to Basics Pro Shop. John credits Joe Bacagaluppi's
drilling of his equipment and his fixing John's thumb along with coaching
tips from his wife and son as having helped
him to improve his game. John thanked the
ABT and Lakehurst for having the tournament, his wife Linda for her
support, and everyone involved with the ABT, especially the staff. John
said his winnings will be used to pay bills, the Vegas Nationals, and he
is going shopping at Back to Basics.
congratulations
john!
Tournament Notes: Congratulations to Brian Nikolai who won $500 by
breaking a 295 Pot.
This week's ball raffle winner was Eddie Abalos.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends of ABT member Ken
Zink, who passed away last week.
