Calarco climbs ladder at suburbanite ***
|
Anthony Calarco worked his way past four
opponents at Suburbanite Bowl to capture his fifth ABT title.
Anthony qualified fourth for the stepladder
finals and started his march to the top by defeating Dean Mueller 223-201.
Anthony then eliminated Gordon Brown 208-148 and Dan Matasek 200-184 to
earn his shot at top seed John Sypniewski. The championship match was
nearly even for the first seven frames but the wheels then fell off for
Sypniewski as he opened in the final three frames. Calarco jumped on his
opportunity and turkeyed in frames seven through nine to pull away to the
203-160 victory.
Champion's
Profile: Anthony Calarco is 60 years old and employed as a salesman
for A&A Office Machines in Schaumburg. He has two adult sons, Frank and
John, ages 36 and 37. Anthony has been back in bowling for about 25 years
and currently bowls at AMF Rolling Meadows and Mont Clare Lanes. His high
game is 300 and he has a 776 high series to his credit. He was using a
Storm Big Hit Solid drilled by Jeff Daggett at Strike Zone Pro Shop inside
AMF Rolling Meadows. Anthony credits Ernie Manno, Jeff Daggett, and Mike
Dugan as having helped him with his game. He thanked Ernie Manno, saying
if it weren't for Ernie's expertise on Monday that Anthony wouldn't be
getting interviewed today. Anthony also thanked Jeff for his patience and
Mike for equipment help. His winnings will be used for more ABT events.
Anthony promised Ernie Manno that he would win for him today. Anthony said
that his mother gave him a hug and a kiss before leaving, wishing him
"good luck" and telling him to "come home late."
