Gwen Torres survived three rounds of match
play to win her first ABT Classic title in our Presidents Day event at AMF
Rolling Meadows. Gwen qualified fifth for the match play finals and
advanced to the championship match by defeating Herman Robke 204-191 and
Ray Bartman 233-229. Her opponent for the title was Frank Kirchman who
qualified fourth then defeated Greg Gates 209-180 and Jan Flynn 215-189.
The championship match was close from start to finish with never more than
a mark separating the two bowlers. Gwen finished up first and rolled a
spare and a strike in the tenth leaving Frank with a chance to win.
Needing a strike in the tenth, Frank pulled his first shot a little high,
making Gwen the winner by the final score of 208-204.
