Pat Cornell won his third ABT Masters title
by defeating Michael Smado 240-201 at Lakewood Bowl.
Gordon Anderson opened the stepladder finals
by defeating James Irons 241-237. Pat Cornell then defeated Anderson
210-189 and Steve Morrissey 217-186 to advance to the title match against
top seed Michael Smado. In the championship match, Cornell used a
five-bagger in frames four through eight to open up a 45-pin lead and a
closing four-bagger by Smado was too little, too late as Cornell won by
the final score of 240-201.
Champion's
Profile: Pat Cornell is 52 years old and employed as a salesman for
Royal Crown Cola. He is married to Brenda and has a 29-year-old daughter,
Tricia. Pat has been bowling for 35 years and is currently bolwing leagues
in six different centers. His high game is 300 and he has a high series of
858 to his credit. Pat was rolling a Columbia Icon drilled by Bill Spigner
at Hawthorn Lanes. Pat credits Bill Spigner and Brian Chilcutt with having
helped his game through their ball choices and drilling expertise. Pat
said that his winnings would be used to pay bills and that he was glad he
made the extra drive this week as the trip was well worth it.
congratulations
Pat!
Tournament Notes: A special thanks to all the bowlers who turned
out this week to make this our best south side event to date. Your extra
