*** spinner wins at espo's ***

Steve Spinner won his first ABT Classic title by defeating Barry Savasta 218-213 at Espo's Entertainment Center. Steve qualified fifth for the match play finals and advanced to the championship match by defeating Peter Besser 226-190 and Earl Ewers 204-181. Barry Savasta qualified first and he advanced with victories over Charles Funk 246-238 and Frank Accardo 289-223. Steve had a 30-pin handicap advantage to start the title match and he held that lead for the first five frames, but opens in the sixth and ninth frames allowed Barry to close the gap. With a double working in the eighth and ninth, Barry needed the first strike in the tenth to pull out the win, but a stubborn 10-pin refused to fall, leaving Steve as the winner by the final score of 218-213.

Champion's Profile: Steve Spinner is 25 years old and employed as a landscaper. He has been bowling for just two years and currently bowls leagues at Brunswick Zone Deerbrook. His high game is 235 and he has a 625 high series to his credit. Steve was using a Hammer Vicious drilled at Niles Pro Shop. Steve credits John Miller and Paul Koller as having helped him to work on his game. He thanked the ABT and Espo's for having the tournament along with Anthony Jovanovich and Hurman Mathus and family for their support during the finals. Steve said his winnings would be used for a wedding ring for his fiancée.

congratulations steve!
