John S. Scaletta won his first ABT Masters
title at Dolton Bowl and he did it in grand style. JS qualified fourth for
the stepladder finals and opened things up with a 261-216 victory over
Rick Hara. Next up was Stephen Lewis who fell 274-217, but the best was
yet to come for JS as he rolled a perfect 300 game in match 3 to dispatch
of Sheldon Mathis 316-245. His first three games of the finals gave JS a
sizzling 803 total and set up the title match against top seed Ray Allen.
JS quickly served notice that there would be no letdown in the
championship match as he again started with the front four strikes before
finally leaving a rail in frame five. Meanwhile, Allen, who had been red
hot during the semis just couldn't quite line up on the championship pair
and his clean game just wasn't enough as JS won by the final count of
228-203.
