John Garrette worked his way past four
opponents to capture his third ABT Masters title. John started his march
to the title with a 257-197 victory over Eric Brown. Next up was Tony
Caraker who fell to John 248-199. In match three John eliminated Mike
Meifert 243-232. In the championship match top seed Matt Barker started
with a spare then a turkey but Garrette matched him frame for frame. In
the fifth frame Barker left a rail while Garrette spared to open a 21-pin
lead. Garrette then strung a four-bagger in frames 6-9 to pull away to the
257-217 victory.
Champion's Profile: John Garrette is 42 years old and employed as an
operator for IMTT in Lemont. He has been bowling for 20 years and bowls
league at Town and Country Lanes in Joliet. John's high game is 300 and he
has a 798 high series to his credit. He was using a Pearl Cherry Bomb
drilled by Joe Bacagaluppi at Back to Basics Pro Shop. John said tips from
Brian Hirner and Randy Kemp have helped his game. His winnings will be
used to pay some bills and have some fun. John also picked up an extra
$500.00 by breaking a 295 Pot this week.
congratulations john!
