Joe Spoonmore won his first ABT Masters
title by defeating Tony Talley 229-190 at Strike 'N Spare Lanes.
Matt Sanchez opened the stepladder finals by
defeating Steve Lunsford 228-225. Sanchez then defeated John Garrette
263-241 before falling to Tony Talley 256-183. In the title match
Spoonmore opened up a 38-pin lead after five frames against top seed Tony
Talley. Talley doubled in the sixth and seventh frames to cut into the
lead but then missed a 10-pin in the eighth and Spoonmore cruised from
there.
Champion's Profile: Joe Spoonmore is 22 years old and employed as a
warehouse worker for Menard's. He has been bowling for 16 years and bowls
leagues at Idle Hour, Parkside, and Fox River Lanes. Joe's high game is
300 and he has a 794 high series to his credit. He was using a Storm
X-Factor Deuce drilled by Bobby Martin at Idle Hour Lanes. Joe said that
his mom, dad, and sister have all helped him with his game. He thanked
them for their help and support along with Larry Lynd for getting him to
join the ABT. Joe said his winnings would go into a bowling fund and pay
some bills.
