*** Morrissey wins third title ***
|
Steve Morrissey won his third ABT Masters
title by defeating Mike Meifert 214-181 in our Thanksgiving Special at AMF
Rolling Meadows. Steve was the top qualifier for the top-12 finals,
earning him a bye in the first two rounds of match play. In round three he
defeated Twone Ray 214-207 to earn his berth in the championship match.
Mike Meifert qualified seventh and he advanced by defeating Tom Variola
236-167, Jim Pennino 214-197, and Ken Flynn 224-214. In the title match
Steve struck in five of the first six frames to build a 56-pin lead that
Mike cut into a little in the second half of the match but it was not
enough as Steve cruised to the 214-181 victory.
Champion's
Profile: Steve Morrissey is 47 years old and employed as a pressman
for K&M Printing Company in Schaumburg. He is married to Rose and has been
bowling for 23 years. He currently bowls leagues at Brunswick Zone Deer
Park and Espo's Entertainment Center. Steve has a high game of 297 and a
775 high series to his credit. He was using a Storm X-Factor and a
Visionary Gryphon drilled by Joe Bacagaluppi at Back to Basics Pro Shop.
Steve said that Mike Martenson Sr., Chuck (the ball rep for Visionary),
Randy Oya, Rob Taylor, Jeff Daggett, Bill Spigner, and Joe Bacagaluppi
have all helped him to work on his game. He thanked his wife Rose and his
family for their support along with all the ABT bowlers, especially Diana
and Nancy because they won't let him get down. Steve said his winnings
would be used for the Vegas Nationals this spring and that the ABT has the
best tournament club anywhere!
congratulations
Steve!
Tournament Notes:
Tom J. Carter posted the high series on Friday to win $100.00.
I have just learned that there will be a
Masters Spring Nationals in Las Vegas. It will run at the same time as the
Classic. I will pass along further details as I hear them.
