Randy Chapman won his first ABT Classic title by defeating John Cernoch 196-185 at Sunset Bowl.

In match one of the stepladder finals Ron Maize defeated Jim Thorndike 267-168. In match two Ron Maize defeated Jette Bonifacio 221-188. In match three John Cernoch defeated Ron Maize 223-173. The championship match was neck and neck for the first seven frames with top seed Randy Chapman holding a slim 1-pin lead at that point. Randy left a split in frame eight and John spared to take a 9-pin lead. John then missed spares in the ninth and tenth frames while Randy stayed clean to retake the lead and win by the final score of 196-185.

Champion's Profile: Randy Chapman is 49 years old and employed as a troubleshooter for ComEd. He is married to Ginnee and they have three grown children: Linda, April, and Jessica. Randy has been bowling since juniors and currently bowls league at Wheaton Bowl. He has a high game of 300 and a 740 high series to his credit. Randy was using a Track Threat drilled by Lynn Corey at Star Pro Shop in Addison. Randy said that Lynn Corey has helped him with his game. He thanked his wife Ginnee for her support, Wheaton Bowl for practice time, the ABT and Sunset for having the tournament and Nancy and Diana for keeping him focused during the semis. Randy plans to use his winnings for Christmas shopping and some new bowling equipment. Randy said that the ABT is a great tournament and he is proud to be a part of it.
