*** Malec earns black shirt ***
|
Wayne Malec earned his "black shirt" by
winning his second ABT Classic title in our Presidents Day Special at AMF
Rolling Meadows. Wayne qualified second for the match play finals and
advanced by defeating Verdell Love Jr. 202-187 and Rose Morrissey 220-179.
His opponent in the title match was Beth Tollefson who qualified eighth
and advanced by defeating Cookie DeShields 256-189 and Mike Bean 179-167.
Beth had a 21-pin handicap advantage to start the title match but Wayne
used a turkey in frames 4-6 to wipe it out and the match was even after
seven frames. A rail for Beth and a strike for Wayne in frame eight gave
Wayne his first lead of the match. Beth marked in the ninth and tenth,
forcing Wayne to do the same in order to win the match. Wayne left the
tough 3-6-9 in the tenth frame but was able to convert to win by the final
score of 209-201.
Champion's
Profile: Wayne Malec is 57 years old and employed as an electrical
engineer. He is married to Sharon and they have two grown children, David
and Linda. Wayne has been bowling for 35 years and currently bowls leagues
at Wheaton Bowl and Brunswick Zone Lakeside. He has a high game of 300 and
a 711 high series to his credit. Wayne was using a Columbia Rycochet
drilled by Joe Bacagaluppi at Back to Basics Pro Shop. He said that
watching the pros on television helps him with his game. Wayne thanked his
wife for letting him bowl, the ABT staff, and AMF Rolling Meadows for a
good shot. His winnings will be used for new bowling equipment and future
tournaments.
