Sonia Burns won her first ABT Classic title
by defeating Jake Kroto III 186-151 at Espo's Entertainment Center. Sonia
qualified fourth for the match play finals and advanced by defeating John
Cernoch 217-195 and Isaac Zamora 225-192. Jake Kroto III was the top
qualifier and he advanced by defeating Jerry Goldman 220-173 and Becky
Rakowski 196-189. The championship match was close for the first five
frames but Jake left two splits and a washout in frames six, eight, and
nine, allowing Sonia to take control of the match as she went on to win by
the final score of 186-151.
Champion's Profile: Sonia Burns
is 42 years old and employed as a general manager for Meranjil Express
Trucking Company. She has three children: Janis, Sonia, and Brauc. Sonia
has been bowling for three years and currently bowls league at Lakewood
Bowl. She has a high game of 204. Sonia was using a Brunswick Inferno
drilled by Tim Butterfield at Lakewood Bowl. Sonia said that lots of
people have been giving her tips to help improve her game. She thanked all
the spectators who cheered her on during the finals. Sonia said her
winnings would be used for some serious shopping.
