Dwight Bergner won his second ABT title by
defeating Randy Aberle 238-230 at Brunswick Zone Deer Park.
In match one of the stepladder finals,
Carmelo Rosa defeated Scott Safransky 237-170. In match two Jack Keith
defeated Carmelo Rosa 204-184. In match three Dwight Bergner defeated Jack
Keith 204-190 to move into the title match against top seed Randy Aberle.
Randy opened to start the championship match but quickly recovered to
string a five-bagger in frames three through seven to take a six-pin lead
after seven frames. The turning point came in the ninth as Randy left a
6-7 split that he couldn't convert. Dwight seized his opportunity with
spare, strike, spare in the ninth and tenth frames to win by the final
score of 238-230.
Champion's
Profile: Dwight Bergner is 48 years old and employed as a route
salesman for Wonder Bread. He is married to Ann and has two children,
Ashley and Chelsea, ages 17 and 21. Dwight has been bowling for 30 years
and bowls league at Blue Mound Bowl in Elm Grove. His high game is 300 and
he has an 815 high series to his credit. Dwight was using Brunswick
equipment drilled by John Megna at Megna Pro Shop. Dwight credits Ed
Seliga and Jason Kaiser as having helped him with his game. He thanked Ed
Seliga and Scott Safransky for their support along with the ABT for having
a great tournament and Brunswick Zone Deer Park for hosting the event.
Dwight said his winnings would be used for home repairs.
