*** Stilke Wins First at Hawthorn ***
|
After nine long years of trying Butch Stilke
finally landed in the winner's circle when he defeated Ron Sereyka 187-151
in our Labor Day Open at Hawthorn Lanes.
Butch qualified fifth for the top 16 finals
and advanced by defeating Cesar Benavides 191-187, Boots Kaas 219-205, and
Mike Dugan 203-179. Ron qualified sixth then defeated Linda Carter
184-183, Craig Mueller 195-183, and Mike Martenson Sr. 189-170 to earn his
berth in the championship match. Ron struggled in the early part of the
title match while Butch stayed clean through seven frames to build a
46-pin advantage. Both bowlers opened in three of the last four frames
with Butch's early lead giving him more than enough to hang on to the
final 187-151 victory.
