Andy Heroff won his third ABT title by
defeating Charlie Carpenter 211-180 at Brunswick Zone Mt. Prospect.
Mike Martenson Jr. opened the stepladder finals by defeating John
Kolodziej 199-192. Charlie Carpenter then defeated Mike Martenson Jr.
235-178 and Byron Takahashi 216-189 to move into the championship match
against top seed Andy Heroff. In the title match Charlie opened three
times in the first seven frames while Andy stayed clean to build a
commanding lead as he cruised to the final 211-180 victory.
Champion’s Profile: Andy Heroff is 27 years old and employed as a
software architect for Motorola. He has been bowling for 15 years and
bowls leagues at Brunswick Zone Deer Park and Palatine. Andy has a high
game of 266 and a 697 high series to his credit. He was using a Brunswick
Monster drilled by Mark London at Deer Park. Andy said that his father and
lots of other people have helped him to develop his game. He thanked his
parents for getting him started in bowling, Mark London for drilling his
equipment, and everyone who supported him during the semis and finals.
Andy also thanked the ABT and Brunswick Zone for a good tournament and
said his winnings would be used for vacation.
