*** Calarco claims seventh
title ***
|
Anthony Calarco won his seventh ABT title by
defeating Gary Burian 198-196 at Arlington Lanes.
In match one of the stepladder finals Gordon
Brown defeated Dave Fitzpatrick 207-194. In match two Anthony Calarco
defeated Gordon Brown 224-208. In match three Anthony Calarco defeated Tim
Ellis 218-211. In the title match Gary Burian started with a double to
take a quick 4-pin lead. In frame 3 Gary missed a 7-pin and Anthony struck
to take the lead by 7 pins. The match stayed close the rest of the way
with Gary using better count to chip away at the lead one pin at a time
until it was even after 8 frames. Gary finished first and spared in the
10th but only got 8 on the fill ball. Anthony left the difficult 2-5-8
combination in the 10th but he was able to convert the spare and he added
9 on the fill ball to eke out the 2-pin victory.
Champion’s Profile: Anthony Calarco
is 62 years old and semi-retired. He has 2 grown sons, Frank and John.
Anthony has been bowling for 27 years and currently bowls at AMF Rolling
Meadows. His high game is 300 and he has a 767 high series to his credit.
Anthony was using a Track Freak drilled by Jeff Daggett at Strike Zone Pro
Shop. Anthony said that John Jowdy has been influential in his bowling
career, without his help Anthony would not have been able to accomplish
what he has in recent tournaments. Anthony thanked his mother who gave him
a big kiss and a hug before the tournament and his 2 sons for all their
support. Anthony said he would continue bowling the ABT because he feels
it is the best amateur tournament he has ever seen. He thanked the ABT
staff and said what a way to celebrate his 62nd birthday.
congratulations
Anthony!
Tournament Notes: Tim Ellis posted the high series on the Saturday
noon squad to win a Storm 2-ball bag. This weeks’ raffle winner was Dave
