Jon Peterson won his first ABT title by
defeating Sam Getta 222-171 in our Year-End Appreciation Tournament at
Lombard Lanes. Jon qualified 2nd for the top 12 finals earning him a bye
in the first round of match play. He then defeated Jon Emmerich 221-193
and Doug Lee 210-188 to advance to the title match. Sam Getta qualified
6th and earned his berth in the title match by defeating Ron Levine
233-180, Rich Manno 239-205, and Roger Haynes Jr. 216-202. In the
championship match Sam opened 3 times in the first 7 frames allowing Jon
to build a substantial lead. Jon then doubled in the 9th and 10th frames
to put the match away by the final score of 222-171.
Champion’s Profile: Jon Peterson is
65 years old and retired from AT&T. He is married to Kathleen and has 3
grown children, Jon Jr., Thomas, and Rachel Ann. Jon has been bowling for
7 years and bowls league at Beverly Lanes. He has a high game of 279 and a
653 high series to his credit. Jon was using a Brunswick Swamp Monster
drilled by Lyle Zikes at Beverly Lanes. Jon said that Lyle Zikes has
helped him with his game by coaching him and drilling his equipment. He
thanked his wife Kathleen for her support, Steve and Rose Morrissey for
encouraging him, all his friends at Beverly Lanes, and the ABT and Lombard
Lanes for having the event. Jon said his winnings would be used for more
tournaments including the Spring Nationals in Vegas. He closed his
interview by wishing everyone a happy, healthy holiday season.
